What personal information do we collect from the people that visit our website?
When registering on our site, as appropriate, you may be asked to enter your name, email address, mailing address, credit card information, phone number or other details to help you with your experience.

When do we collect information?
We collect information from you when you subscribe to a newsletter or donate to our organization, or Opt-in to receive updates.

How do we use your information?
We may use the information we collect from you when you subscribe to CSI to send periodic email updates and alerts. You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time via a link at the bottom of the email and unsubscribe from our SMS alerts by replying OPT OUT.

Security:
We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and offline.

Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way. You can verify this by looking for a lock icon in the address bar and looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the Web page.

While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, billing or customer service) are granted access to personally identifiable information. The computers/servers in which we store personally identifiable information are kept in a secure environment.

We use “cookies” on this site. A cookie is a piece of data stored on a site visitor’s hard drive to help us improve your access to our site and identify repeat visitors to our site. Third-party disclosure:
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your Personally Identifiable Information unless we provide users with advance notice. This does not include website hosting partners and other parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or serving our users, so long as those parties agree to keep this information confidential. We may also release information when it’s release is appropriate to comply with the law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others’ rights, property, or safety.

However, non-personally identifiable visitor information may be provided to other parties for marketing, advertising, or other uses.

We will not sell, trade, or transfer any mobile phone data collected on our mobile subscription page.

Online Privacy Notice

Entity Purpose. Common Sense Institute (“CSI”) is a non-partisan research organization dedicated to the protection and promotion of Colorado’s economy. CSI’s mission is to examine the fiscal impacts of policies, initiatives, and proposed laws so that Coloradans are educated and informed on issues impacting their lives. Web Site Owner. CSI is the owner of this web site (“Web Site”). This online privacy notice provides users with CSI’s information practices related to the Web Site, including what type of personal identifiable information may be collected, how the information is used, and with whom the information may be shared.

Web Site Visits. In general, a user can visit the Web Site to review information without submitting personal information. A Web Site user may choose to submit limited personal information to customize information relevant to that user and to be kept informed about future information relevant to the content on the Web Site. For example, to provide information about potential tax increases for a specific property, a user may submit a specific property address. In addition, a user may submit an email address to receive customized information and future correspondence.

Limited Use of Information. CSI uses personal information only to provide users with information and updates related to the content on the Web Site. CSI will not solicit or attempt to sell the user any products or services. Unless a user informs CSI by email to opt-out of future communications (as detailed below), CSI reserves the right to provide users with information about CSI’s Web Site and related information.

Stored Information Uses. CSI retains limited personal information submitted by users for analysis and future correspondence.

No Tracking of Personal Information. The Web Site is not set up to track, collect or distribute personal information not entered by users. Through web site access logs CSI may collect clickstream data and HTTP protocol elements, which generate certain kinds of non-identifying site usage data, such as the number of hits and visits to our sites. This information is used for internal purposes by technical support staff for research and development, user analysis and business decision making, all of which provides better services to the public.

Use of Cookies. CSI, or its third party vendors, may collect non-identifiable and personal information through the use of various technologies, including “cookies”. A cookie is an alphanumeric identifier that a Web site can transfer to customer’s hard drive through customer’s browser. The cookie is then stored on users’ computer as an anonymous tag that identifies the customer’s computer, but not the customer. Cookies may be sent by CSI or its third party vendors. Customer can set its browser to notify customer before a cookie is received, giving an opportunity to decide whether to accept the cookie. Customer may also set its browser to turn off cookies; however, some Web sites may not then work properly.

Commitment to Online Security. CSI employs physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard the security and integrity of personal information. Personal information is accessible only by staff designated to handle online requests or complaints.

No Liability for Acts of Third Parties. CSI will exercise all reasonable efforts to safeguard the confidentiality of users’ personal information. However, transmissions protected by industry standard security technology and implemented by human beings cannot be made absolutely secure. Consequently, user agrees that CSI shall not be liable for unauthorized disclosure of personal information due to no fault of CSI including, but not limited to, errors in transmission and unauthorized acts.

Changes to Privacy Policy. This privacy notice was last updated on August 21, 2023. CSI reserves the right to change or update this Web Site’s privacy policy statement at any time. A notice of such change will be posted on the Web Site.

Links to Other Web Sites. The Web Site may contain links to other web sites. CSI is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of those other Web Sites.

Disclosure to Governmental Authorities. Under extraordinary circumstances, personal information may be subject to disclosure pursuant to a judicial or other government subpoenas, warrants or orders.

Opt-Out Right. CSI respects the privacy rights and wishes of users. A user may “opt-out” of all future communications by emailing info@csinstituteco.org with the words “Opt Out” in the subject line. Upon receipt of this “opt-out” email, the user will not receive future communications from CSI. Users can also Opt-Out of future SMS correspondence by replying “OPT OUT”.
