Sobanet & Stein to focus on Colorado transportation infrastructure

Denver, CO – “We are pleased to announce Henry Sobanet and Ben Stein as our 2020 Terry J. Stevinson fellows,” said CSPR President & CEO Kristin Strohm.

Established in honor of Terry J. Stevinson, a founding board member of Common Sense Policy Roundtable (CSPR), this fellowship is dedicated to examining a critical issue confronting Colorado and presenting achievable solutions.

“We are also pleased to announce the focus of the 2020 fellowship, solving Colorado’s transportation infrastructure needs. Meeting our transportation needs is a problem Coloradans continue to face. Without an updated and robust infrastructure, our economic vitality is at risk,” continued Strohm.  “Both Henry and Ben have a wealth of experience in transportation and the state budget. Their expertise will be invaluable to this project.”

Henry Sobanet began his professional career as an economist at the Colorado Legislative Council, the nonpartisan research office for the state legislature. He served as the Director of the Office of State Planning and Budgeting (OSPB) for Republican Governor Bill Owens and Democratic Governor John Hickenlooper. He also served on the Colorado Transportation Commission from 2005 to 2009. While in the private sector, Sobanet advised business, government, and nonprofits and lectured at the University of Colorado and University of Denver. Sobanet is currently the Chief Financial Officer of the Colorado State University System.

After a successful tenure in the private sector, Ben Stein served in state government as Colorado’s Deputy State Treasurer and then Chief Financial Officer of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). As a member of the Executive Management Team, he routinely weighed in on policy issues impacting the entire department. In 2014, Stein became Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Mike Coffman. He currently works in the transportation field out of the Denver office of Atkins Global, a design and engineering consulting firm.

“We believe sound fiscal and economic research is essential to uphold Colorado’s economic vitality, future, and individual opportunity. That’s exactly what the Stevinson fellowship is about. We look forward to engaging in this project and welcome Henry and Ben to the team,” continued Strohm.
