GREENWOOD VILLAGE – On Monday Governor Hickenlooper announced an agreement between the proponents of four ballot initiatives regarding oil and gas development to stand down and remove all of their initiatives from the November ballot. Two of those initiatives, sponsored and funded by Congressman Jared Polis, would have caused significant negative economic impacts to Colorado’s economy had they become law.
Common Sense Policy Roundtable (CSPR) has followed these issues with much concern and released a REMI Report in March that showed what a ban on fracking would cost the state in terms of jobs, revenues, and economic growth (Click here for complete study). REMI is a unique Colorado economic model which accesses these issues.
“CSPR, along with our partners at Metro Denver EDC and South Metro EDP, developed data early on in the public policy discussions surrounding these initiatives. We are glad that our data helped frame the debate and detailed what kind of impacts some of these initiatives would have on our economy,” said Earl Wright, Chairman of the Board.
The Governor also announced the formation of a Blue Ribbon Task Force that will be tasked with crafting recommendations to minimize conflicts with energy development in Colorado, including setbacks of oil and gas facilities from structures.
“As the Task Force navigates this important decision making process,” Wright continued, “it is our hope that they will be well grounded in using our REMI study and other fiscal impact studies we will produce to help make educated economic decisions for Coloradans.”
