Internship Job Description

The intern will assist the 2022 Terry J. Stevinson Fellows Jennifer Gimbel and Eric Kuhn in a critical evaluation of the water supplies available to Colorado in a 21st Century climate. This includes informative research, data collection, report construction, and report engagement. This role reports to the Vice President of Policy and Research and 2022 Fellows.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Informative Research & Data Collection: gathering background information and collecting data on the research project.
    • Locate effective sources.
    • Use integrative data series such as, BEA, BLS, FRED, LMI Gateway, and IPUMS.
    • Incorporate findings into Excel (generate usable databases that properly reflect the data that has been collected).
    • Manipulate and interpret the data for the purpose of generating information for the reports.
  • Report Construction: writing and summarizing the data collected and translating it into a reader-friendly format for our audiences.
    • Summarize and communicate the key findings of research.
    • Collaborate with management and other Research Analysts to curate findings.
    • Work with Community Engagement in finalizing the report in keeping with brand standards (website images and report graphics).
  • Report Engagement: supporting report release process by communicating with the CSI team.
    • Be informed about the topic and monitor news stories and current happenings.
    • Work with Community Engagement in disseminating key findings for the broader public (social media, e-newsletter, presentations, podcasts, press releases).
  • Administrative Support: provides administrative support for research, community engagement, and general operations.
    • Maintain updates in Airtable, Constant Contact, Sharepoint, and other software tools.
    • Support webinars, events, and fundraising efforts as needed.

MUST HAVE:

  • Several years towards a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in public policy, economics or water policy.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products; especially Excel.
  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and work within teams.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to receive and provide constructive feedback.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience working with database platforms
  • Experience in archive and legal research
  • Experience working with IPUMS/BLS data
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional evenings

Hourly Pay Range: $18-$25 an hour depending on educational level and experience.

Employment: Part-time- 15-20 hours per week at CSI located in Greenwood Village, CO or at the CSU Colorado Water Center in Fort Collins, CO.

Time frame: Summer/Fall 2022
